The team at Window Ware, the award-winning hardware distributor once again showcased their community spirit with a fantastic year of fundraising in 2019.
Throughout the year, colleagues, customers and suppliers all dug deep to raise vital funds for chosen charity Sue Ryder St. John’s Hospice. With a range of fundraising events, along with collection tins and even a trade counter tuck shop, the Window Ware team raised a tremendous £1,568 for the Bedfordshire hospice.
The team’s community spirit was exemplified by Window Ware’s brave credit controller Sharon Fowler. Facing the challenge of undergoing chemotherapy, Sharon took charge of the situation and organised a sponsored head shave. Sharon braved the shave in two stages for maximum fundraising, with the first half shaved in support of the hospice and the second in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Not only did Sharon’s efforts contribute to Window Ware’s final total but she managed to raise a magnificent £1,370 for Macmillan. If that wasn’t enough, Sharon went on to organise ‘Wear a Wig Day’ to celebrate the completion of her chemotherapy. With full support from colleagues and a wonderful array of colourful wigs, a further £200 was raised for St. John’s Hospice.
Along with fundraising for the local hospice, members of the Window Ware team showed their support for Macmillan, raising £324 through an Easter charity raffle and the annual big coffee morning.
What’s more, Sarah Binns, Head of Internal Sales and Marketing joined with five friends to take on the South Coast Mighty Hike, a gruelling 26-mile cross-country trek. ‘The Blister Sisters’ battled 50mph winds and hailstones to complete the course in 9 hours and 22 minutes, raising an incredible £2,770 for Macmillan in the process.
And finally, Trade Counter Assistant, Andrew Tollett fought in a UWCB charity boxing match to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Despite taking on an undefeated boxer, 20 years his junior, Andrew put in an impressive performance to raise over £2,110 for the charity.
Sam Nuckey, Managing Director of Window Ware comments: “As we always say, our greatest strength at Window Ware is our team, not just for their dedication, experience and technical knowledge but for their incredible community spirit. To raise such an amazing amount of money for these worthy causes is a fantastic achievement, and I couldn’t be more proud.
“As to be expected from Window Ware, our aim is to go one better in 2020 and surpass our 2019 total. With staff voting to keep Sue Ryder St. John’s Hospice as our chosen charity, we’re looking forward to more fundraising activities and opportunities for staff, customers and suppliers to once again show just how generous they are.”
