The final touches are being made to Birmingham’s NEC, ready for over 35,000 UK Construction Week (UKCW) visitors between 9 – 11 October, and professionals can get ahead by planning their time now.
With only days left until the construction industry’s biggest event of the year kicks off, installers and independent tradespeople are gearing up to take advantage of the exhibitors, workshops, seminars and networking at this year’s Build Show, sponsored by Easy-Trim.
Get the best deals
Those wanting to navigate more than 650 exhibitor stands successfully, can pre-book meetings via the UKCW website. With plenty of new deals to be made, visitors will want to make a note of key window, door, roofing and tool exhibitors including Easy Trim, Jigtech, OnLevel, Velux, VELFAC and Kensington Traders.

For cutting-edge technology and a sneak-peek ahead, the Future of Construction Hub immerses visitors in digital construction, 3D printing, robotics, AI and VR, augmented reality and modern methods of construction. Alongside this, Birmingham City University is presenting its latest academic research and Coventry University is demonstrating how it’s preparing the professionals of the future with its construction simulator.
Canon is offering visitors an immersive experience of their own work, asking visitors to bring their own design files on USB to see it brought into a different dimension.
The Innovation Trail is also taking visitors on a tour of the latest products and systems such as Containex, Danosa, Eave, Hekim Yapi, Geason Training, Kedel, Max Europe, SFL Mobile Radio and Velux.
Learn from the experts
As well as leading exhibitors and futuristic products, UKCW is playing host to some of the industry’s top experts across its seminars and CPD programme.
Keynote speakers and industry specialists are taking to the stage to share knowledge, spark debate and challenge the future. Speakers on the UKCW Stage include:
- Architect and TV presenter George Clarke, hosting a panel discussion on the digital future of construction;
- Property expert and TV presenter Kunle Barker, leading a discussion on political correctness gone mad;
- TV presenter Steph McGovern, hosting the industry economic forecast panel; and
- Experts from Balfour Beatty, Places for People and the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government discussing Brexit: impact and consequences on UK procurement.
Other seminars across UKCW include:
- Building glass into the circular economy, at the Infrastructure Hub;
- The future of construction skills post-Brexit, at the Regeneration Hub;
- The IoT evolution, at the Building Tech Live Theatre; and
- Correct design for fire safety performance at the Timber Focus Theatre.
With over 35 free CPD sessions, there is something new for everyone to learn across the three CPD hubs. Popular topics include fire doors and daylight and the human response. Pre-booking is essential.
The BRE Academy is also hosting free workshops; OM Group is holding health and safety CPD sessions on its stand; and the Access Industry Forum is delivering Working at Height CPD sessions. Topics encompass construction site safety, upskilling, retrofit, ladders and stepladders, mobile access towers and more.
Relax and celebrate
Celebrations are in order as UKCW announces its Role Models initiative winner live on the UKCW Stage on 10 October.
Following a jam-packed day, there will be plenty to talk about at the Central Bar in Hall 11, sponsored by the Elliott Group and the Timber Bar in Hall 9, sponsored by Germany Trade & Invest. For a livelier finish to the day, the Beer Festival, sponsored by Velux, is featuring street food, a gin and fizz bar, rockaoke and FIX radio.
