This year’s Build Show, sponsored by Easy-Trim, is unmissable for anyone wanting to remain competitive and compliant in the market. Birmingham’s NEC, between 9 – 11 October, will showcase more than 10,000 products and 650 exhibitors, invaluable CPD workshops, topical seminars, endless networking opportunities and an innovation trail, keeping installation professionals up-to-date and out of trouble.
Time-saving tools
This year’s Build Show is split into four sections, making the search for time-saving tools and innovative products even easier.
New products on show in Doors, Windows and Glass include: Easy-Trim’s new Easy-Trim Roto roof window range; Tuff Waterproofing’s latest liquid waterproofing; and Velux’s first smart window and curved glass rooflight. The National Construction Training Services is also on hand, signing contractors up to the latest roofing training in lead, hard metals, slate and tiling, and waterproofing.
Ten additional companies are setting up camp in the PIGS Product Pavilion, on stand B515, providing even more door, window and glass solutions for the aspiring installer. The PIGS Product Pavilion will feature some of the best products the glazing industry has to offer. B J Waller will be using the Build Show to exclusively launch the new BUVA IsoStone threshold. Also showing off their latest door, window and glass solutions are: Icotherm, Alufold, Certass, Extrudaseal, Glazpart, Blue Sky Concept Design, Proactive Flat Roofing.
Tools, Health and Safety will showcase the innovations saving installers time, without risking safety. Products include: TRUMPF’s battery-driven power tools, offering up to 60% longer running times; Rawlplug’s new comprehensive and free site testing service; and THSP Risk Management’s risk assessment builder.
Other exhibitors include: Addex, Fischer Fixings, OM Safety Solutions, Asecos, Connection, Mascot International, Max, Safelincs, Toolboxit and Kärcher, with their new range of indoor and outdoor safety vacuum cleaners.
Roofing, Cladding and Insulation returns to the Build Show, where visitors can discover the latest products, tools and services from roof exhibitors including: Forticrete, Hikoki, Knauf, Quinn Building Products, Rockwool and Tradepoint (B&Q).
Other exhibitors include: Velfac, Asteknik, BA Components, BAB Projects, Checkmate Fire Solutions, Ermetika and Nationwide.
Plus, with the UK market for panelised modular building systems flourishing, installers can see how they can benefit at the dedicated Offsite section and then develop an offsite strategy with Ian Heptonstall, at the Offsite Theatre, supported by MPBA and STA.
Staying safe working tall
Following the fully-booked CPD sessions of last year, there will be three hubs across UKCW, plus:
- The Working at Height hub, supported by the Access Industry Forum, running 40-minute CPD sessions on staying safe and compliant when working at height, using RMD Kwikform’s full-size Ascent Screen and Megashor Tower, alongside virtual reality;
- The Scaffolding Association, providing scaffolding safety advice from its stand and information about its new Access Industry Training Scheme;
- OM Group, hosting health and safety CPD sessions from its stand;
- A separate free CPD programme, run by the BRE Academy, covering topics such as construction site safety, construction upskilling, and more; and
- Products and services including Safelincs’ nationwide installation and maintenance services and training courses; Mascot International’s personal protection equipment workwear and safety footwear; Toolbox IT’s new health and safety app; and Velux’s vetting scheme for experienced and trusted installers.
Other CPD sessions include: building glass into the circular economy, preventing musculoskeletal disorders, fire safety during hot works and health and safety in construction. Speakers include Aston Fuller from British Glass and Howard Passey from the Fire Protection Association.
Digging deep into safety in construction
Health, safety and wellbeing are also hot topics across the UKCW seminar programme, with discussions including:
- Implementing safety tech in construction, with Damon Williams from SafetyCulture;
- How building management systems can improve our productivity and wellbeing, with Ian Ellis from Siemens Building Technologies;
- Buildings, brains and BIM: using neuroscience to design for wellbeing; and
- The role of daylight and ventilation in happy and healthy homes, with Aaron Sudgen from VELUX.
The UKCW Stage will host high-level discussions around important industry issues, with speakers including: Barbara Res, the female project manager behind Trump Tower, and Lord David Blunkett.
