An order processor at specialist aluminium fabricator CDW Systems is set to run the London Marathon next year to raise money for Leukaemia Care UK – and is appealing for help in reaching their target.
In 2019, Liam Smith decided that he wanted to raise money by running the London marathon for the charity following the loss of his nan from a short battle with leukaemia.
The 32-year-old hopes to hit his target of £2,500 for the charity and raise awareness of the work it does across the country.
Liam said: “It’s really concerning that over a third of us (37%) will be diagnosed with leukaemia during our lifetime, which is just not acceptable. Once again, I would like to do my bit for all the fighters out there past and present and prevent this happening in the future.
“It will be my third time running the marathon, once for children with cancer and this will be the second time for Leukaemia Care, but that was a while ago and I am excited and looking forward to the challenge. Any donation big or small with make a massive difference to this amazing charity.”
Leukaemia Care UK is dedicated to ensuring that everyone affected by leukaemia and related blood cancer types – such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) – receives the best possible diagnosis, information, advice, treatment and support.
Liam is currently training hard to be in tip top condition on Sunday, April 23 and CDW Systems Group Chairman Jeremy Phillips commented: “Leukaemia Care UK do tremendous work and we are right behind Liam and wish him the best of luck with his training.”
