Saint-Gobain Glass has won two prestigious industry awards: a G23 Award and a Glass Focus Award.
Saint-Gobain Glass won the Sustainability Initiative of the Year category at the G23 Awards for its work with its customer, integral blinds manufacturer, Morley Glass & Glazing to create the first successful closed-loop post-consumer glass recycling scheme that turns old glass units into new high-performance window glass.
Using cullet (crushed recycled glass) to manufacture new glass reduces the amount of virgin raw materials that are required, as well as saving vast amounts of energy and CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process.
Mike Butterick, Marketing Director at Saint-Gobain Glass, said: “Glass Forever is our commitment to making the glass industry as sustainable as possible, and by doing so help to meet our net zero climate change targets. Winning the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award takes us one step closer to making glass recycling the norm.”
Beata Zalinska, Technical Team Manager at Saint-Gobain Glass, received the Rising Star Award at the Glass Focus Awards for her commitment to developing her own skills as well as others. Alongside her challenging day job she has achieved a Level 5 apprenticeship in Coaching and Mentoring and is a Mental Health First Aider.
Mike Butterick, said: “Beata is now actively involved in coaching and mentoring people within our glass business and across the wider Saint Gobain UK organisation. A current piece of work she is working on is with a group of 12 Shift Managers to help them grow in their roles and equip them with the necessary coaching skills to really engage with their teams on a deeper level, to get the best out of them, and to deliver more for themselves, for the business and for our customers.
“Many people believe that a rising star award should recognize people who are new to their role or the business, but Beata, who has been with Saint-Gobain for 10 years, is a fantastic example of someone who rises to and embraces every challenge and opportunity, and very clearly wants to support her colleagues and the wider business. She is a very worthy winner of this award.”
Dave Dalton CEO of British Glass which runs the Glass Focus Awards said: “It was a pleasure to gather with representatives from the industry in Manchester to celebrate the incredible achievements from across the glass supply chain. As we face challenges both within the UK and beyond, it is all the more vital that we come together to acknowledge and celebrate the immense strides we have made over the past year.”
