VELUX celebrates tradition and launches VELUX Heritage conservation roof window

Loft conversions have long been popular with homeowners looking to create more space in an affordable way. For historic or listed buildings, the conversion might be more complicated by the fact that roof windows need to both blend in with the historical façade while enhancing the indoor comfort with greater thermal efficiency. The launch of the new VELUX Heritage conservation roof window on the 1st of March ticks both of these boxes. Co-created with architects and conservation officers During the development process of the new window, architects and conservation officers provided insights and feedback. Their involvement has ensured a roof window that meets all the strict design requirements for heritage and conservation, making it an ideal choice not only for owners of listed buildings, but also to those living in historic buildings, and are seeking more daylight via a historically-correct window solution. “With our new Heritage conservation roof window, homeowners can improve their historic homes and preserve the character of the building. The slim profile and flush fitting window is designed to sensitively integrate with original roofing materials, providing the benefits of natural daylight and fresh air inside the home whilst improving the energy performance of the historic building. Installers will benefit from an easy and fast installation due to the trusted VELUX flashing kit, the wide availability and fast delivery ” says Alex O’dell, Senior Market Director of Great Britain & Ireland, VELUX. Designed for heritage Its design alludes to the traditional cast iron window with a slim elegant profile, flush fit to the roof and black frame colour that blends in naturally with the roof slates for complete period authenticity. The window is top-hung and has a vertical glazing bar and original-style winding handle in reference to the attic windows of days gone by. This attention to design detail makes the VELUX Heritage conservation roof window the ideal choice for retrofitting and updating loft spaces in historic properties. Transforming traditional space with daylight, fresh air and high thermal efficiency Although it looks traditional, there’s nothing old fashioned about the VELUX Heritage conservation roof window. It transforms traditional spaces with maximum daylight while enhancing indoor comfort with great thermal efficiency with a guaranteed U-value of 1.3 W/m2K. The window glazing comes with premium features, including safety lamination, toughened outer glass, an easy to clean coating, a UV filter and rain noise reduction. These features are standard and without any additional cost. For full control of daylight levels, the new roof windows are compatible with VELUX blackout and translucent pleated blinds – everything modern life requires from a roof window.
